Service Appointment Specialist / Express Writer

Service Appointment Specialist Job Duties:

  • Answers Service Department phones promptly and professionally.
  • Utilizes Appointment Scheduling System to book customer appointments.
  • Requests vehicle information as part of appointment process.
  • Confirms customer appointments.
  • Ensures customers who have additional questions
  • Writes up express oil changes and tire rotations.
  • Checks out express customers when work is complete.

(e.g.., questions about their repair order) are referred to the service advisor or other appropriate individual.

· Handles customer inquiries promptly and professionally.

· Conducts customer follow-up contact.

· Promotes good relationships with customers with a goal of repeat business.

· Schedules service department customer appointments, route and return phone calls.

· Heavy customer contact in a friendly, professional manner with customer satisfaction as a key driver.

Minimum high school diploma or equivalency diploma.

Skills Required:

  • Interpersonal skills; Must have excellent customer service skills and experience.
  • Professional personal appearance.
  • Ability to be trained on dealer computer systems.
  • Strong Computer skills.
  • Telephone etiquette and customer service orientation.
  • CDK experience extremely helpful.

Automotive Technician

Job Summary:       The General Service Technician is responsible for performing vehicle diagnostics, repairs, and maintenance according to OEM factory standards for labor time.  The position may also entail participation in a mentoring/apprenticeship program. 


Principal Responsibilities:


  Thoroughly performs appropriate and necessary diagnostics to identify vehicle problem utilizing all available factory technical information and specified tools/equipment.

 Performs vehicle repair as outlined on repair order within specified time frame according to proper factory repair procedures and dealer policies.

   Reviews service write up to verify required work.

   Determines if vehicle requires any other work and immediately advises details to Service Advisor including if repairs can be completed within time promised.

 Secures needed parts from the Parts Department

 Strives to exceed customer expectations for repair.

 Ensures service repair notes/records are clear and well documented.

 Road Tests vehicles to ensure repairs are properly completed.

 Ensures the cleanliness of customer vehicles.

 Ensures warranty claims are properly documented and submitted in a timely manner.

  Assists Service Advisors as needed in communicating with customers about vehicle repairs.

 Assist other technicians as needed.

 Participate in mentoring/apprentice program

 Attend factory training classes to stay current with new vehicle systems; attend technical training classes, keep up to date on industry developments/information, and seek professional certifications.

 Comply with federal (ie, OSHA), state, and local regulations governing safety and hazardous waste disposal.

 Maintain a clean and neat work area.

 Use shop tools with care, and take time to keep
them organized, clean and properly maintained. 

 Job Specifications: 


Education and Experience(Knowledge):

  • Minimum High School Diploma or equivalent
  • ASE Certification preferred
  • Valid Driver's License and good driving record
  • 3-5 years experience in auto repair


  • Ability to read and comprehend diagnostic service information including wiring diagrams.
  • Computer Skills
  • Knowledge of and ability to use service shop equipment.

Work Environment :

  • Employee must have full set of personal tools
  • Employee must be able to operate shop equipment and power tools.
  • Employee will be exposed to noise, dust, wide temperature variances (cold to hot) and will be required to lift heavy parts and equipment up to 75lbs

Master Technician


Functions as a skilled-level technician who is able to perform diagnoses and repairs in all areas, in addition to being specialized in particular areas of repair and who has previously worked as a B-Class general service technician.

Essential Duties
• Performs work as outlined on repair order with efficiency and accuracy, in accordance with dealership and factory standards.
• Diagnoses cause of any malfunction and performs repair.
• Communicates with parts department to obtain needed parts.
• Saves and tags parts of the job if under warranty or if requested by the customer.
• Examines assigned vehicle to determine if further safety or service work is required or recommended.
• Communicates with service advisor immediately if additional work is needed, if work outlined is not needed, or if repairs cannot be completed within the promised time.
• Documents all work performed and recommended on the repair order.
• Road tests vehicles when required or refers to the test technician.
• Participates in manufacturer-sponsored training programs, schools and events.
• Keeps abreast of manufacturer technical bulletins.
• Supervises work of any apprentice technicians as assigned.
• Reports machinery defects or malfunctions to supervisor.
• Ensures that customers' cars are kept clean. Notifies service advisor immediately of anything that has happened to change the appearance or condition of the vehicle.
• Keeps shop area neat and clean.
• Maintains and is accountable for all dealership-owned tools and manuals. Returns them to the proper place and in the same condition as they were received.
• Understands, keeps abreast of and complies with federal, state and local regulations, such as hazardous waste disposal, OSHA Right-to-Know etc.
• Operates all tools and equipment in a safe manner.
• Reports any safety issues immediately to management.
• Other tasks as assigned.
